Bass Week 1999

Thinking about holidays? Well you missed a glorious week at Bassenthwaite this year!! Yes the sun shone for seven of the nine days – ok so you don’t always get good winds with high pressure, but everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Only one of the eighteen races scheduled was lost due to lack of wind.

A heavy thunderstorm and a very damp final Saturday soon became distant memories as the ground soaked up the water and drying airs soon dried up any damp canvas.

A competitive fast handicap fleet comprising RS400s, Laser 4000s and an ISO is beginning to emerge – make sure you’re there next year!

The social atmosphere during the tropical evenings was magical. With on-site camping (and a new meeting place comprising an outdoor sink for dish-washing) there was no need to worry about drink driving (well until the next day at least! Although some people seemed to sail better on auto pilot).
